Maharashtra Cabinet Extends EV Toll Relief, Approves Key Urban and Infrastructure Projects

The Maharashtra Cabinet on January 17, 2026, extended the toll relief for electric vehicles at Atal Setu for another year. The Cabinet meeting, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also approved important infrastructure and urban transport decisions. The Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-2), aimed at improving suburban rail and urban mobility, saw its revised costs and state share approved.
The Cabinet waived the premium on a plot in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, for the Tirupati Devasthanam to build the Padmavati Devi temple. Restructuring of 1,901 posts in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics was approved, including its renaming as the Commissionerate of Economics and Statistics.
New staffing patterns were cleared for district planning committees and divisional commissioner offices. Toll concession on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivdi-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu will continue for another year, offering relief to commuters.
Under the PM e-Drive scheme, a direct payment method was approved for purchasing 1,000 electric buses for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal. Payments will be charged directly to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations.
To boost agricultural exports, the government approved a multi-modal hub and terminal market for fruits and vegetables at Bapgaon, Thane district, on 7.96 hectares of land. Facilities will include vapor heat treatment, irradiation, packaging, and cold storage.
The Bembla river project in Yavatmal was approved with a budget of ₹4,775 crore, set to irrigate 52,423 hectares across five talukas. The rehabilitation issue of Dhamak village, Amravati district, was addressed.
A major housing project for Mumbai Police was cleared to build 45,000 houses for officers and staff in city and suburbs. The Cabinet also created the Maharashtra Agency for Holistic International Mobility and Advancements (MAHIMA) to assist skilled youth in finding overseas jobs through training and placement support.
Lastly, a land parcel in Panvel (West) was allotted to the Annasaheb Patil Backward Class Development Corporation for its headquarters and a multipurpose building.
