Indian-origin Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Wife’s Death in Australia
January 17, 2026
Indian-origin Vikrant Thakur confessed to killing his wife, Supriya Thakur, in Adelaide Magistrates Court, Australia. Supriya, 36, was found dead on December 21 after police responded to a domestic assault report. Vikrant, 41, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. He appeared in court on December 22, did not seek bail, and attended virtually while in custody.
On January 14, following his lawyer's advice, Vikrant pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to murder. He told the court, "I plead for manslaughter, but not guilty for murder." Prosecutors had asked for a 16-week delay to gather more evidence, including post-mortem and DNA results. Now, with Vikrant's admission, the case will continue in April.
Meanwhile, friends and community members of Supriya started an anonymous GoFundMe fundraiser for her son, collecting over $11,641. The page says Supriya worked long hours and dreamed of becoming a registered nurse to help others and give her son a better future.
