Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce has issued a new order banning the name of Allah on shopping bags, product packaging, and promotional materials that are disposable or likely to be misused. Abdulrahman Al Hussain, the ministry’s spokesperson, announced the directive on Monday, stressing that this step is to "protect religious sanctity and prevent any form of disrespect." Al Hussain explained that such commercial items are often discarded or handled carelessly, which risks disrespecting the sacred name. The ministry stated the ban covers commonly used commercial products and called on chambers of commerce to inform all businesses about the rule. The ministry warned that legal action will be taken against any companies violating the ban. Posting on the ministry’s official X account, Al Hussain said the measure reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to safeguarding the Divine Names of Allah, which hold deep religious significance. Officials noted this directive fits within broader efforts to blend commercial activity with cultural and religious values. By restricting Allah’s names on items likely to be thrown away, Saudi Arabia aims to keep religious respect alive in public and business life.
