Telangana has gathered ₹1.24 lakh crore in revenue so far, only 54.38% of its ₹2.24 lakh crore goal for the fiscal year. However, more than half of this amount, ₹65,930 crore, came from borrowings and other liabilities. With just three months left in the year, the State still has a long way to meet its targets.
Tax revenue reached ₹1.13 lakh crore, 65.02% of the budgeted ₹1.75 lakh crore. Non-tax revenue lagged at ₹7,120 crore, just 22.52% of the expected ₹31,618 crore. Grants and contributions were low too, at ₹3,805 crore or 16.7% of the projected ₹22,782 crore.
Goods and services tax revenue was ₹39,004 crore, 65.33% of the target. Stamps and registration fees brought in ₹11,304 crore, 59.22% of estimates. Sales tax stood at ₹25,126 crore, 67.07% of the ₹37,463 crore goal. State excise duties collected ₹17,507 crore, 63.38% of the estimate, despite a licence fee hike.
The State's share of union taxes was strong at ₹14,982 crore, 70.69% of the budgeted ₹21,195 crore. Other taxes and duties brought in ₹6,059 crore.
On spending, interest payments remained high at ₹21,454 crore, already 110.77% of the ₹19,369 crore budget. Telangana pays about ₹2,383 crore in interest monthly, and may end up spending ₹25,000 crore for the year. Pension payments were ₹15,126 crore, 107.76% of estimates. Salaries and wages were ₹35,746 crore, 80.37% of the budget.
The State reported a revenue deficit of ₹9,601 crore, opposed to the projected surplus of ₹2,738 crore. The fiscal deficit reached ₹65,930 crore, and the primary deficit was ₹44,476 crore, which is 128.39% of the ₹34,640 crore budget estimate.
