January 18, 2026
Forest officers caught a 10-month-old tiger cub near Nanjidevanapura in Chamarajanagar taluk inside the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve on the night of January 17. "The cub is safe and its health is being closely monitored," said the Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director of BRT Tiger Reserve, Chamarajanagar.
This cub was one of four living with their mother near Nanjidevanapura village and Harave hobli inside the reserve. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, Bengaluru, gave permission to capture the tigress and her four cubs.
Following this, the mother tiger was captured on January 9, and a female cub about 10 months old was caught on January 15. The effort to capture the remaining two cubs is still underway.
Two departmental veterinary officers and four trained elephants from Dubare camp are taking part in the operation. Drone teams and forest officers are also involved to ensure a smooth capture.
