MP Durai Vaiko Demands Tamil Voice Alert at Elamanur Level Crossing
January 18, 2026
Tiruchi Lok Sabha member Durai Vaiko has formally requested the Divisional Railway Manager of Salem to replace the Kannada voice announcement with Tamil. This concerns the voice alarm system installed at Elamanur level-crossing gate no. 69 near Tiruchi. Though the crossing is in Tiruchi district on the Tiruchi-Karur section, it falls under Salem Railway Division. In a memorandum dated January 18, 2026, Mr. Durai Vaiko noted that the new alarm system warns road users when the gate is closed. However, the announcement is currently done in English and Kannada, not Tamil. "The absence of a Tamil voice announcement may lead to confusion among pedestrians and road users and undermines the effectiveness of the safety warning," he said. Mr. Durai Vaiko has urged immediate action to replace Kannada with Tamil announcements. He also asked for a status update on the matter from the railway authorities.
