KVPS Alleges Assault and Wage Denial of 11 Workers at Sankranti Rooster Fights in Krishna
January 18, 2026
Leaders of Kula Vyatireka Porata Samithi (KVPS) alleged that 11 workers from Scheduled Castes, Backward Castes, and minority communities were mistreated during Sankranti rooster fights at Uppuluru village in Krishna district. The workers, hired by organiser Pamarthi Gopichand of Ayyanki village, were denied wages, falsely accused of theft, stripped half-naked, tied with ropes, detained illegally, and assaulted in public.
KVPS State general secretary A. Malyadri said the false accusation was a trick to avoid paying wages. "They stripped them half-naked, tied their hands with ropes, illegally detained them, abused and assaulted them," he said, calling it a "barbaric and inhuman act."
The KVPS team met victims and families and demanded crime cases under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Malyadri criticized the police FIR for listing only bailable offenses despite the severe abuse and called for court action and suo motu cognizance. Perpetrators also recorded and shared videos of the incident.
He urged the SC Commission, Human Rights Commission, and Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V. Anitha to visit the victims and ensure their safety.
