HRF Condemns Arrest of APCLC Leaders Over Banners in Andhra Pradesh
January 18, 2026
The Human Rights Forum (HRF) has strongly condemned the arrest of Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC) leaders by Tirupati Police. The arrests relate to banners put up for APCLC’s 20th State meeting. The case was filed on January 9, 2026, by Tirupati East police. APCLC vice-president and advocate Kranti Chaitanya and a printing press owner, D. Mohana Krishna, were arrested. Cases also involve other leaders including APCLC State president Hemadri. According to HRF State general secretary Y. Rajesh, along with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana coordination committee member A. Chandrasekhar and State secretary G. Rohith, the police charged them under several Sections of BNS and other Acts. The key charge is insulting the national flag. However, the banners showed opposition to the ruling party’s ideology and did not violate any law, said HRF leaders. They clarified the banners did not offend any religion. HRF demands the immediate release of the arrested leaders and withdrawal of all cases against APCLC members.
