Scientists in Vienna are surprised by a cow named Veronika from Austria who skillfully uses tools. Veronika uses sticks, rakes, and brooms as tools to scratch different parts of her body. She cleverly uses both ends of a broom: the bristle end for tough spots like her back and the smooth handle for softer areas like her underbelly. Dr Antonio Osuna-Mascaro from the University of Veterinary Medicine said, "We were not expecting cows to be able to use tools, and we were not expecting a cow to use a tool as a multipurpose tool. Until now this has only been consistently reported in chimpanzees." Chimpanzees are known for their varied tool use, like using sticks to collect ants and stones to crack nuts. However, this is the first time scientists have documented a cow using tools. Despite thousands of years of humans living with cattle, this finding is new and exciting. Researchers believe this shows cows may have greater cognitive abilities. Other cows might develop similar skills if given the chance. Veronika's owner, organic farmer Witgar Wiegele, hopes her talents inspire people. He said, "Save the nature, then you protect yourself. Nature diversity is the key to survive on this planet." The study about Veronika is published in the journal Current Biology.
