Army Vehicle Slips into Gorge in J&K, 10 Soldiers Killed, 11 Injured

On January 22, 2026, an Army vehicle lost control and plunged into a 200-foot-deep gorge at Khanni top in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. The crash killed 10 soldiers and injured 11 others. The vehicle, carrying troops to a high-altitude post, skidded off the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road near noon. A joint Army and police rescue team found four soldiers dead at the scene and rescued 11 injured. Later, six more soldiers died from their injuries. One injured soldier is under observation at Bhaderwah sub-district hospital, while 10 others were airlifted to Udhampur command hospital. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Kumar Bhutyal confirmed the deaths and injuries. Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed condolences. Mr. Sinha said on X, "We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers." He also assured the best treatment for the injured and prayed for their fast recovery. The Chief Minister praised the swift rescue and evacuation efforts and sent heartfelt sympathies to the victims’ families.
