Kuwait Uncovers Massive Citizenship Fraud, Nearly 1,000 Nationals Stripped
January 23, 2026
Kuwait’s routine nationality check uncovered one of its largest citizenship fraud cases. A file belonging to a man born in the 1930s, who gained nationality in 1965, had nearly 1,200 dependents registered. Authorities found 978 of them were falsely registered and removed their nationality. DNA fingerprinting was key in confirming who was truly related. The deceased had six wives and 44 children. Those falsely listed included extended family too. Five people connected to the file are missing and face losing their nationality due to ignoring summons and refusing DNA tests. Officials say the original citizen is not suspected of fraud. The file was misused by others over years, creating a major fraud case. This case shows how Kuwait is using DNA and detailed reviews to control nationality fraud strictly.
