January 23, 2026
Lakkundi Gram Panchayat has decided to honor Prajwal Ritti and his family for returning treasure they found during house excavation in Lakkundi village, Gadag district. On January 10, Prajwal discovered a tumbler containing gold ornaments weighing around half a kilogram, believed to be over 100 years old. In a special grama sabha held on Thursday, the Panchayat resolved to display Prajwal’s photo with information about his honesty in every school. They also agreed unanimously to allot the Ritti family a 30 x 40 ft residential plot. President of Lakkundi Gram Panchayat, Kenchappa Pujar, said the move was to recognize the family’s honesty and motivate children. The Panchayat will also request district in-charge Minister H.K. Patil to provide financial help. Since government funds may not be enough to build a house, aides between ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh are being sought from the MLA, minister, and district administration. During the meeting, the Ritti family was honoured by local members. Prajwal’s mother, Gangavva Ritti, expressed relief and hope, saying, "The panchayat has decided to allot land. Assurance regarding employment and assistance towards building our house has also been given. We are hoping that things will change for good."
