The Kunamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court has postponed the ruling on Shimjitha Musthafa's bail application to January 27. Shimjitha is accused in the suicide case of 42-year-old U. Deepak. Magistrate M. Athira deferred the decision after hearing the police. The police oppose her release, citing risks of witness tampering. They also noted that forensic analysis of her mobile phone is ongoing for further investigation. Police requested custody of Shimjitha for interrogation. Deepak, a sales manager from Govindapuram, died by suicide on January 18. This followed viral videos posted by Shimjitha, a postgraduate and former panchayat member of the Indian Union Muslim League. The videos alleged that Deepak molested her on a crowded bus from Payyannur, Kannur, two days earlier. These clips got over two million views and led to intense online harassment. Deepak's family says the contact was accidental amid a rush in the bus. Their claim is backed by bus CCTV footage and witness statements. Shimjitha had not filed any police complaint before posting the videos. The Kozhikode Medical College police arrested Shimjitha on January 21 in Vadakara after a manhunt. They registered an FIR under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment to suicide. The remand report states that seven videos were secretly filmed and edited to humiliate Deepak, causing him extreme mental distress. Shimjitha deleted her social media accounts after the incident. She is currently in a 14-day judicial custody at Manjeri Sub Jail.
