The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mumbai arrested Omkar Eknath Shinde, 27, within 12 hours of a brutal stabbing at Malad railway station. The victim, Alok Kumar Singh, a professor at NM College, was fatally stabbed on platform no 1 on January 24 evening. A minor argument broke out between Singh and Shinde as they both were getting off a local train. Shinde, a daily-wage metal polisher, stabbed Singh in the stomach and fled the crowded station. Singh was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Using CCTV footage, police quickly identified and caught Shinde in Kurar, a western suburb. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are ongoing. The incident was reported by the Borivali GRP on January 25, 2026.
