Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik spoke at the 16th National Voters' Day event in Chennai on Sunday. She reminded everyone that "Even a thousand years ago, Tamil Nadu had the Kudavolai system to choose people’s representatives." The State-level programme was held at Ripon Buildings under her leadership. Ms. Patnaik shared that the Election Commission of India chose "My India, My Vote" as the theme for 2026. She said officials across levels are working hard to create a perfect electoral roll and ensure smooth elections. Currently, about 80,000 personnel are involved in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. During the event, certificates and shields were given to students who won contests linked to National Voters' Day. Also, first-time and newly enrolled voters received their Electoral Photo Identity Cards.
