Two people died and two others are in critical condition after a boat carrying 14 persons from Mysuru capsized near Hangarkatte Ship Building area close to Malpe on January 26, 2026. The Udupi police identified the deceased as Shankarappa, 22, and Sindhu, 23. The critically injured are Dharmaraja, 26, and Deesha, 26. According to police, all 14 people from Saraswatipuram, Mysuru, who work in a call centre, boarded the boat at Malpe Delta Beach. The boat belonged to Waveriders company, and all were given life jackets, but none wore them. Around noon, the boat capsized near the river mouth where it meets the sea. All 14 were rescued by nearby boats and brought ashore. Two died, while two remain in critical condition, the police said.
