On January 26, 2026, three employees of a private firm died and four others were injured in a car crash near Nelahaal on National Highway 48 in Tumakuru district. The car hit a truck from behind. The victims, all Bengaluru-based workers, were returning from a trip to Gokarna, Murudeshwar, and Udupi. The deceased were identified as Aniketh (42), Abhir (44), and Sanokthi (35). Police said the car was overspeeding and the collision was severe, badly damaging the car and trapping passengers inside. Passers-by and police helped rescue them. The injured were taken to hospitals and are receiving treatment. Traffic was delayed due to the accident. The Kora police have registered a case and are investigating the cause.
