Energy Minister Credits Reforms for Power Sector Revival and Higher DISCOM Ratings
January 26, 2026
Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the coalition government has revived the power sector after it weakened during the YSR Congress Party's rule. He stated that major reforms led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu improved the performance of DISCOMs. The minister expressed satisfaction over the high ratings given to DISCOMs in the latest Power Finance Corporation annual report. "The previous government had damaged the power sector for political gains," Mr. Ravi Kumar said. "They pushed DISCOMs into a debt trap and weakened their operations." He recalled that his government made power sector reforms a top priority after taking office. These measures included reducing technical and commercial losses, improving billing and collections, and releasing government subsidies on time. He said these efforts strengthened DISCOMs financially and operationally. The minister added these reforms were the key reasons behind the improved national ratings and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supplying quality power.
