Hyderabad Water Board Rolls Out Summer Plan With Rainwater Pits and Tanker Boost
January 28, 2026
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board is set to drive its summer action plan through chief general managers acting as nodal officers across 12 regions. They must complete all approved drinking water and sewer works by March 31. Additionally, these officials will oversee the construction of 18,000 rainwater harvesting (RWH) pits within the Outer Ring Road limits over 90 days. Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy stated, "All residential premises of 200 square yards and larger require a RWH pit and for premises over 300 square yards, it is mandatory." He added that proposed changes to Revenue regulations aim to make RWH pits mandatory for all new water connections. Ensuring uninterrupted water tanker supply is a top priority. Officials are instructed to track demand trends in their areas and set up more filling stations and water points as needed. Extra tankers will be procured if necessary. Mr. Reddy emphasized officials must "strictly adhere to the norm of delivering water tankers within 24 hours of booking." The board will also prioritize desilting sewer lines and manholes by the end of May, with swift removal of waste from these operations. Road restoration must be completed by the last week of April to avoid public inconvenience before the monsoon. The review meeting included executive director Mayank Mittal, technical director Sudarshan, personnel director Mohammed Abdul Khader, project director Sridhar, operations director Vinod Bhargava, CGMs, GMs, and other senior officials.
