Gujarat's election officials announced a big update on January 29, 2026. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to update electoral rolls led to 6.88 lakh applications to add names and 9.88 lakh requests to remove names. The draft voter list was first published on December 19, 2025, after the enumeration phase finished. Voters sent Forms 6 and 6A to add their names and Form 7 to delete names. As of January 28, 2026, a total of 6.88 lakh applications for inclusion and 9.88 lakh applications for deletion were received. Officials said they will verify all applications and documents before making the final decision. The SIR exercise also removed a huge number of voters from the rolls. A total of 73.73 lakh names were deleted, cutting the draft voter count from 5.08 crore to 4.34 crore. Of those removed, 18,07,278 were confirmed dead, 9,69,662 were absent, 40,25,553 had moved out of Gujarat, and 3,81,470 were registered in more than one place. Another 1,89,364 were deleted for other reasons. This big clean-up aims to ensure the voter list stays accurate for upcoming elections.
