Maharashtra has become the first state in India to open dedicated Menopause Clinics in government hospitals and urban healthcare centres. The project was led by Minister of State for Public Health, Meghna Bordikar. She said the response from women across the state has been “overwhelming.” These clinics focus on treating issues like hormonal imbalance, bone problems, sleep disturbances, heart risks, and mental health concerns during menopause. They provide expert medical consultation, mental health counselling, health assessments, treatment, medicines, and lifestyle advice. The initiative launched on January 14, 2026, around Makar Sankranti. Women from different regions praised the government’s effort, calling it sensitive and inclusive. Minister Meghna Bordikar said, “Menopause is not a disease, but a natural phase in a woman’s life. However, during this period, women require strong physical and emotional support. These Menopause Clinics have been established to ensure that every woman in Maharashtra receives proper medical guidance, treatment and dignity during this phase. When women’s health is strengthened, families, society and the State as a whole become stronger.”
