US Navy Deploys New Warship to Middle East Amid Rising Tensions with Iran
January 30, 2026
The US Navy has increased its military presence in the Middle East by sending another warship, the USS Delbert D. Black, into the region within the last 48 hours. This boost brings the total number of destroyers in the area to six, alongside an aircraft carrier and three littoral combat ships.
This deployment follows US President Donald Trump's announcement of a "massive Armada" moving swiftly toward Iran. Trump said, "It is moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose. It is a larger fleet, headed by the great Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln, than that sent to Venezuela. Like with Venezuela, it is, ready, willing, and able to rapidly fulfill its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary."
Trump also urged Iran to negotiate. He said, "Hopefully Iran will quickly ‘Come to the Table’ and negotiate a fair and equitable deal - NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS - one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence! As I told Iran once before, MAKE A DEAL! They didn’t, and there was ‘Operation Midnight Hammer,’ a major destruction of Iran. The next attack will be far worse! Don’t make that happen again. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
However, officials report that Trump has not approved any military action yet. He remains open to diplomacy and sees the military buildup as a way to push Iran toward talks.
Reports say Trump is also considering if regime change in Iran could be possible. But US officials doubt Iran will accept all US demands. These include stopping all uranium enrichment permanently and giving up nuclear stockpiles, including over 960 pounds of uranium near weapons grade. Some of this is believed destroyed during strikes in June.
Besides the nuclear issue, the US wants Iran to limit its ballistic missiles and end support for proxy groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen.
