Security Forces Intensify Anti-Terror Hunt in Kishtwar Amid Internet Suspension
January 30, 2026
On Friday, January 30, 2026, security forces stepped up their anti-terror operation in the snow-covered Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. They are tracking down three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists hiding in the region. Authorities suspended mobile internet services within a six-kilometer radius covering Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo to prevent misuse by anti-national elements during the ongoing mission.
The operation began on January 18 and saw fierce gunfights in the Sonnar forest near Mandral-Singhpora. A paratrooper was killed, and seven soldiers were injured. The terrorists escaped using thick forests and rough terrain, but the security forces continued searching despite over two feet of snowfall.
Two more encounters occurred on January 22 at Mali Dana top and on January 25 at Janseer-Kandiwar. However, the terrorists slipped deeper into the forest once again. Mobile internet suspension, initially imposed on January 23, is extended until 11:59 pm on January 30, as per the J&K Home Department order. This move, authorized by the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, aims to stop the misuse of high-speed data that could disrupt public order.
Meanwhile, in Poonch district, security forces launched a search operation in Pajja Morh, Nabana top, and surrounding areas after receiving information about two suspected individuals. There has been no contact with the suspects so far, and the search is ongoing, officials reported.
The operation reflects strong efforts by security forces to fight terror despite harsh weather and tough natural cover in Jammu and Kashmir.
