Four persons were arrested for dousing a 64-year-old man, Rajendran, with petrol and setting him on fire in Maligampattu near Kadampuliyur, Cuddalore district. Rajendran was riding pillion on a motorcycle when two men in a van intercepted him on January 29 night. The two men, Manikandan (39) and Kubendiran (29) from Panruti, chased the rider, poured petrol on Rajendran, and set him ablaze. Locals quickly rushed him to Panruti General Hospital, and he was later shifted to Cuddalore Government General Hospital. Police reviewed CCTV footage and arrested the van driver, Parthiban (28) from Sithiraichavadi. Initial investigation revealed that Rajendran’s daughter-in-law, B. Jayapriya (28), had a relationship with Manikandan. Rajendran had objected to this and warned Manikandan, prompting the attack plan, police said. Kadampuliyur police arrested Manikandan, Kubendiran, Parthiban, and Jayapriya. A case has been registered in this serious crime.
