Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched multiple projects worth ₹1,715 crore on January 30, 2026, in Dibrugarh, Assam. The highlights include the ₹284 crore second legislative assembly complex and MLA hostel to make Dibrugarh a key administrative hub. The complex will feature a three-storey assembly building, nine-storey MLA hostel, an 800-seat auditorium, and a security barrack. Mr. Shah also inaugurated the first phase of the ₹238 crore multi-disciplinary sports complex, equipped with an indoor stadium, swimming pool, football field, and various courts. He laid the foundation for its second phase costing ₹209 crore, including a 30,000-seat stadium, central playground, and athletic track. The Home Minister laid the foundation for the ₹292 crore Wildlife Health and Research Centre designed for wild animal treatment and research. It will have educational blocks, a central lab, museum, auditorium, clinical block, and radiation lab units. Officials said this will improve coordination among forest officials, veterinarians, and researchers. Additionally, Mr. Shah launched a ₹692 crore project to restore and rejuvenate 15 wetlands across nine districts under the National Disaster Mitigation fund. This initiative aims to reduce urban flood risks, boost water retention, and manage Brahmaputra River basin floods better. Present at the event were Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MPs, MLAs, state ministers, and senior officials.
