Kerala High Court Orders Police Protection for Expelled CPI(M) Leader V. Kunhikrishnan
January 30, 2026
The Kerala High Court has directed police protection for V. Kunhikrishnan, a whistleblower and expelled leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. He cited threats to the "life, properties and personal liberty" of his family and friends. Earlier this month, Kunhikrishnan alleged irregularities in the management of the party’s 'martyr fund' in Payyannur, leading to his expulsion from the party.
In his petition, Kunhikrishnan said he planned to release a book titled 'Nethruthwathe Anigal Thiruthanam' (Followers should correct the leadership) on February 4 at Gandhi Park, Payyannur. The book covers his political and public life, highlighting mismanagement and fund irregularities involving local party leadership.
Following the book's announcement, law and order issues erupted in Payyannur. A march with threatening slogans took place before his house, firecrackers were set off, and a supporter’s motorcycle was burned. He also reported a social media hate campaign aimed at intimidating him and his family.
