The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded a Supreme Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Anandapur warehouse fire in West Bengal. BJP spokesperson Guru Prakash Paswan said 27 people have died and several remain missing. He accused the Trinamool Congress government of ignoring the tragedy. "Neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor any State Minister has visited the site. They are silent over the whole issue," he said. Mr. Paswan also noted that the Wow Momo CEO had recently joined Ms. Banerjee on a trip to Madrid. He questioned why the government had not taken action against him. Arresting the warehouse manager and deputy manager was called a "token action." The incident was described as a "man-made disaster" due to poor fire safety enforcement. Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, along with BJP workers, protested in Kolkata against the Mamata government for procedural lapses. Mr. Paswan highlighted other recent fires in West Bengal this month, such as factory and slum fires, causing great harm to poor people. He criticized the government for apparent indifference. Additionally, Mr. Paswan pointed out the poor and risky condition of several state bridges, citing Majerhat Bridge and Vivekananda Flyover. "The situation in West Bengal is no longer hidden from anyone," he said.
