Kerala’s General Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced that the state government will use students’ UID (Unique Identification Numbers) to decide school staffing. This plan aims to stop fake admissions, which cause significant financial loss to the state. In a Sunday press meet in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Sivankutty said the Kerala Education Rules were changed in 2022 to support this UID-based staff fixation. Now, the count of students with valid UID on the sixth working day will determine how many staff a school needs. The Aadhaar-based system for staff fixation has been approved by both the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court. The minister assured, "UID is mandatory only for staff fixation. No child will be denied school admission or any educational benefit anywhere in the State due to lack of UID." Currently, 31.14 lakh students in government and aided schools have valid Aadhaar. The deadline for uploading details about students with invalid UID on the Samanwaya portal has been extended until August 20, 2025. Students with Enrolment ID or UID valid till July 14, 2025, will also count for staff fixation. The Finance department is now reviewing the proposal. Once approved, orders will be issued to complete staff fixation within a month to fill vacancies. On physically challenged reservation, Mr. Sivankutty shared new steps for government-aided schools. Although this reservation exists in government jobs, it was not fully followed in aided schools before. To fix this, the government issued guidelines and a handbook to bring transparency in appointments. State and district committees were formed following a Supreme Court interim order. Around 1,500 persons with disabilities were appointed even before these committees started working. On January 24, another 431 candidates from the first phase rank list were recommended for appointment. The government plans further selections to fill remaining vacancies, said the minister.
