The Kadavanthra police registered a cheating case against four accused, including Biju Radhakrishnan, a known convict in the solar scam. The case was filed on January 31 following an order from the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate-VIII court. The accused are charged with cheating a 28-year-old man from Nilambur of ₹29 lakh. They promised to arrange Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for his charitable trust. Besides Radhakrishnan, the other accused named are Nisha Peter, Berlin, and Venugopal. All are linked with the Kakkanad-based NGO Help Foundation. The complainant said that Radhakrishnan befriended him in 2021, claiming to be a senior Supreme Court lawyer, with Peter pretending to be his wife and also a lawyer. They convinced him to start a charitable trust, assuring that CSR funds would be raised. The accused took money as processing charges, ambulance purchase costs, and documentation fees. When the complainant later asked for his money back, the accused allegedly threatened to implicate him in a rape case, the FIR states. Initially, the police refused to file a case, saying transaction details were missing. The complainant then approached the court, which directed the police to register the case.
