Paris prosecutors raided the offices of Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, in France. The Paris cyber-crime unit is conducting searches with help from Europol. This is part of an investigation that started in January 2025. The probe followed complaints about X’s algorithm and the content it promoted. The prosecutor’s office said Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned to appear at hearings in April as part of the ongoing investigation. X has not yet responded to the raid. BBC contacted the company for comments. Previously, X described the probe as an "attack on free speech." The prosecutor’s office said the operation aims to ensure X follows French laws. The investigation expanded in July 2025 after reports of sexually explicit deepfake images and Holocaust denial content were found on the platform. At that time, X called the probe "politically-motivated" and denied manipulating its algorithm. The prosecutor’s office also announced it will stop using X and switch to LinkedIn and Instagram for communication going forward.
