Australia Charges Man for Abuse of 459 Children via Social Media and Gaming Platforms
February 5, 2026
Queensland police have charged a 27-year-old man with 596 child abuse offences involving 459 victims across Australia and 15 other countries. The man, in custody since February, allegedly targeted children through popular social media and gaming platforms between 2018 and 2025. Police discovered more than 23,000 videos and images of abuse on his devices.
Detective Acting Chief Superintendent Denzil Clark said, "The volume of images and videos meant the process of identification took time, skill and commitment." So far, 360 victims have been identified, with over 200 in Australia and the rest mainly in English-speaking countries. Most victims were boys aged 7 to 15.
Clark warned of the rising danger of children being groomed or threatened to send sexual images through popular apps and games. "The trauma that this causes a child is significant," he said. The man created multiple online profiles, posing as both men and women to groom victims and coerce them into sending explicit images, which he carefully saved in named folders.
Charges include 244 counts of producing child abuse material through a carriage service, 163 counts of using a carriage service to procure persons under 16, and 87 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child using carriage service. The man was due in court on Thursday, and police continue working with international partners to identify victims and provide support. Other suspects are also under investigation.
