Queensland police arrested a 27-year-old man from Maryborough in February 2025 for 596 child abuse offenses. He used fake identities online to groom children aged seven to 15 in Australia and abroad. The man will appear in Brisbane court today. Police spent 12 months sorting through 23,000 photos and videos on his hard drive. The investigation, called Xray Wick, found 259 identified child victims out of an alleged 459 total. Police continue probing with help from interstate and international teams. The man faces charges including 244 counts of producing child abuse material, 163 counts of using a carriage service to exploit under-16s, and 87 counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child via online services. Queensland Police say he "actively targeted children on social media and gaming platforms between 2018 and 2025." They allege he "self-produced the child abuse material" on his devices and created many online profiles pretending to be males and females. He carefully saved images and videos into named folders. Acting Chief Superintendent Denzil Clark said the probe involved child abuse detectives, digital forensics experts, interstate and international police, and the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation. Clark warned, "This is extremely concerning and disturbing offending." He urged parents to protect children from online dangers, noting "increasing cases of children being groomed or threatened to send sexual images, often via popular apps and games."
