Parliament Continues Motion of Thanks Debate Amid Disruptions in Budget Session 2026
February 5, 2026
Both Houses of Parliament continued the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address on Thursday, February 5, 2026. In the Lok Sabha, Sarbananda Sonowal moved the motion, and Tejasvi Surya seconded it. The House has set aside 18 hours for this debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to respond on Wednesday, February 4, but repeated disruptions and slogans from Opposition members forced the Speaker to adjourn the Lok Sabha session. The Prime Minister is now likely to reply in the Rajya Sabha, where the motion of thanks debate continues. The Budget Session features 30 sittings over 65 days and will conclude on April 2. Parliament will take a recess from February 13 to March 9, during which Standing Committees will review the Demands for Grants of various Ministries and departments. Stay tuned for live updates.
