In the early hours of Thursday, February 5, a transient tiger killed two cattle near Punyakshertram in Rajanagaram Mandal, close to Rajamahendravaram city. This fresh attack came three days after it preyed on a calf near Torredu on the banks of the Godavari river. Forest Range Officer Daveedu, part of the tiger monitoring team, told The Hindu, "The tiger is roaming in the fields of horticulture crops and palm oil farms, which are nearly five kilometres from Rajamahendravaram city on Thursday morning." Authorities have alerted locals to avoid going to their farms to prevent any untoward incidents. Schools in Rajamahendravaram Rural and Rajanagaram mandals of East Godavari district remain closed. Police from Rajamahendravaram City North Zone have blocked all routes to stop vehicular traffic entering the tiger's roaming area. Additionally, sound systems have been set up to warn agriculture workers present in the fields. Forest and police officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
