A day after three sisters died by suicide in Ghaziabad, police continue to investigate their unusual family situation. The father has three wives and five children. Police are also checking two cell phones belonging to the teenagers; one was sold six months ago and the other two days before the incident. A senior Ghaziabad police officer told The Hindu they are comparing the sisters' handwriting with a note left behind. The note mentions how they were denied access to Korean TV shows and K-Pop music. "We are also reading the note carefully and speaking to the parents to understand their unconventional family set up and the impact it might have on their children," the officer said. The note expressed sadness over not being allowed to teach their youngest half-sister, aged three, "their Korean culture." It said, "Whenever we would introduce her to her Korean relatives, Lee Know bhaiya and Kuina didi, Tina mummy would come and tell us why we are not teaching her some educational things instead of turning her Korean like us. We tried to make her one of us but you all made her Bollywood and forced us to see her as our enemy." Police are examining if polygyny—the father marrying three women—affected the children’s mental health. "Till now none of the wives have raised any issues with the set up but we are investigating the circumstances that led to this set up," the officer added. The father, Chetan Kumar, married Sujata and Heena, who are sisters, three years apart. He also married a third wife, Tina, with whom he has a three-year-old daughter. However, he has yet to show court records of this third marriage. Police are still searching for the two cell phones owned by the girls that were sold before their deaths. The officer said, "We learnt during investigation that they owned two cell phones, one was sold off six months back and another was sold off two days prior to the incident." The post-mortem report found the cause of death to be hemorrhagic shock due to injuries including fractures. The police said all angles are being investigated but no FIR has been filed yet.
