York Police in Canada revealed a major crackdown on organized crime in Toronto. Seven current police officers and one former officer face charges of criminal conspiracy. The conspiracy aimed to kill an Ontario corrections officer. These cops leaked private details to gang leaders. The accused officers are Timothy Barnhardt, Robert Black, John Madeley Sr (retired), John Madeley Jr, Carl Grellette, Saurabjit Bedi, Derek McCormick, and Elias Mouawad. Deputy Chief Ryan Hogan explained that in January 2023, Brian Da Costa, a drug trafficker, was arrested. Police seized 169 pounds of cannabis and one pound of fentanyl, believed headed to Europe. The investigation uncovered insiders helping Da Costa by sharing secret information. More civilian suspects were named Thursday, facing charges like conspiracy to murder, possession of illegal firearms with ammo, and hiding identities. The probe started in June 2025 after a murder plot against a corrections manager at an Ontario prison. Suspects went to the manager’s home in York Region intending to kill him. That case revealed a bigger crime web linked to murder plots, shootings, extortion, robberies, drug deals, and firearm crimes. Police Chief Jim MacSween said, "After these cops leaked personal information, crimes happened in real time." He called it "a deeply disturbing day for policing" and vowed, "Corruption has no place in policing. It’s never and will never be tolerated."
