WADA Eyes Penis Injection Claims in Ski Jumping at Winter Olympics
February 6, 2026
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) might investigate claims that male ski jumpers inject hyaluronic acid into their penises to boost performance. German newspaper Bild reported that some jumpers use these injections to increase penis size by one or two centimetres before their suit measurements. Larger suits may help them fly further in the air.
Sandro Pertile, men's race director at the International Ski Federation (FIS), said, "Every extra centimetre on a suit counts. If your suit has a 5% bigger surface area, you fly further."
At a Winter Olympics press meet, WADA director general Olivier Niggli remarked, "If anything was to come to the surface, we would look at it and see if it is doping related." WADA's Polish president Witold Banka joked, "Ski jumping is very popular in Poland so I promise you I'm going to look at it."
FIS communications director Bruno Sassi denied any evidence of such injections, telling BBC Sport, "There has never been any indication, let alone evidence, that any competitor has ever made use of a hyaluronic acid injection to attempt to gain a competitive advantage."
Ski jumpers must wear only tight underwear during 3D body scans to measure their suits, which must align closely with body measurements including crotch height plus 3cm for men. Hyaluronic acid injections can last up to 18 months.
Previously, Norwegian medalists Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang received three-month suspensions for their teams' involvement in suit tampering at the World Ski Championships. Despite the athletes not knowing about the cheating, the FIS confirmed reinforced threads were used to gain an edge. Both athletes will compete at the current Winter Olympics.
The men's ski jumping event begins on Monday, as the Winter Olympics officially start on Friday.
