Lok Sabha adjourned amid noisy Opposition protests, 19 hours wasted in Budget Session
February 6, 2026
On Friday, February 6, 2026, as soon as the Lok Sabha met, many Opposition members rushed to the Well. They shouted slogans and showed placards about various issues. Speaker Om Birla quickly adjourned the House till 12 noon. He said that in this Budget session so far, 19 hours and 13 minutes have been wasted due to disruptions. The Speaker urged members to let the House run smoothly. "I want the House to run and people have elected the members to raise their issues but not to shout slogans," he said. He also mentioned that there is a question marked for Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. Despite this, the protest continued and the Speaker adjourned the House in less than four minutes after starting the session. Tensions remain high between the government and Opposition. Notably, the Motion of Thanks was passed on Thursday, February 5, without the prime minister's usual reply due to continuous opposition sloganeering. The unrest highlights the challenges in holding productive sessions in Parliament right now.
