Saudi Arabia Revokes Licences of 74 Private Schools Over Safety and Regulatory Violations
February 6, 2026
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education has withdrawn the operating licences of 74 private schools in several cities. This move follows repeated violations of rules and safety standards by these schools. The ministry said many of these schools lacked valid operating licences or the required Civil Defence safety certificates, both crucial for legal operation.
Officials stressed these violations put students at risk and harm education quality. Inspections showed that some schools continued working without renewing licences or following updated regulations. The ministry gave warnings and chances to fix problems, but the schools did not act in time.
To stop student education from being disturbed, affected students were moved to public schools or other private schools chosen by parents. The ministry said it aims to provide a safe learning place close to students’ homes.
This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to tighten control and maintain high standards in Saudi Arabia’s private education sector. Authorities will keep inspecting private schools nationwide to ensure compliance and protect students.
