Kalaburagi City Corporation Faces Collapse Over ₹300 Crore Dues and Service Failures
February 6, 2026
The Leader of Opposition in Kalaburagi City Corporation, Shobha Desai, and ex-Mayor Vishal Dhargi have accused the civic body of financial mismanagement and administrative failure. They said the corporation is near collapse, disrupting key public services. At a press briefing on February 5, they revealed the corporation owes over ₹300 crore in land acquisition compensations despite court orders. This has led to asset seizures and office closures. They blamed the Mayor, Commissioner, and local legislators for ignoring the crisis.
Ms. Desai warned residents face a worsening drinking water crisis. She said the corporation delayed payments to the water supplier, causing poor upkeep and equipment breakdowns with no permanent fix.
Mr. Dhargi claimed that expensive projects under the 15th Finance Commission and Mahatma Gandhi Urban Development Scheme hadn’t started anywhere, even though tenders are ready. He reported that sanitation workers and temporary staff are not paid regularly, sanitation quality is slipping, and basic services are breaking down. He criticized frequent fires at the solid waste unit in Udnoor village due to safety neglect, posing health risks.
They said no plans are in place for summer water shortages. Roads are poorly built and maintained, with departments uncoordinated. They accused the ruling party of neglecting opposition wards and bias in fund distribution.
The duo warned that if the Mayor and officials don’t fix these problems soon, BJP leaders and corporators will protest outside Kalaburagi City Corporation on February 9.
