The Forest department has raised a high-level alert as four wild elephants in musth are roaming near Munnar town. These include well-known tuskers Padayappa, Virinjia Kompan, Ottakompan, and a fourth tusker that recently came from Mankulam forest division. Munnar Range Officer S. Biju stated, "The wild elephants are moving very close to Munnar town. We have issued a strict warning to tourists and residents not to attempt photography or approach the animals." He added, "Drivers have also been instructed not to bring their vehicles near the tuskers." The Forest department has alerted the local panchayat, police, Fire and Rescue Services, and other departments about the situation. The Rapid Response Team, led by Jayan J., is keeping a close watch on the elephants' movements across the hill station. Officials said the tuskers are not aggressive now but emphasized the importance of following safety advisories. The elephants have been spotted in Old Munnar, Periyavarai town, Kallar, and Nallathanni. Local residents reported that the elephants, especially Padayappa, have damaged farms near homes and raided roadside shops for food. The Forest department confirmed many wild elephants are active in the Munnar range, with several migrating from Mankulam forest division.
