A student team from Shree Bharath Vidyaashram CBSE Senior Secondary School in Puducherry received the prestigious Wipro earthian Awards 2025. The awards ceremony was held at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, where Anurag Behar, CEO of Azim Premji Foundation, and Narayan P. S., Wipro’s Global Head of Sustainability, handed out certificates and cash prizes. The Wipro earthian programme promotes sustainability education across India, recognizing schools showing strong commitment to eco-friendly practices. The Puducherry team comprised S. Prithisha, G. Varshini, S. Tanika, K. Dulasi, A. Taynshika, and their teacher R. Arun Kumar. They were among 25 winners selected from over 2,000 entries. Their project focused on biodiversity, waste management, and water conservation. They led a large-scale plastic cleanup and awareness drive at the Murungapakkam mangrove forest. In just 79 minutes, 79 students collected, separated, and documented plastic waste. The team also met local residents and municipal officials to understand problems like poor waste segregation and lack of infrastructure. Their goal was tied to the Bipin Rawat World Record 2025. Their effort merged science, civic action, and media outreach, sparking a student-driven environmental movement. The project produced a sustainable action plan for long-term mangrove conservation, winning praise for combining practical work with thoughtful reflection.
