Congress MP Karti Chidambaram Slams DMK for Delaying Seat-Sharing Talks in Tamil Nadu
February 6, 2026
Congress MP from Sivaganga, Karti Chidambaram, on Friday said DMK is delaying the formation of its committee for seat-sharing talks with Congress in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He told journalists in Pudukkottai that Congress has already formed a five-member committee for negotiations. Despite talks between DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi nine days ago, DMK is yet to set up its committee. "The Congress committee was ready to hold talks but the DMK was delaying constituting its committee," he said. Karti added the ruling party should immediately form its panel to clear confusion from different leaders' views. He said both Congress and DMK know they will win only if they stay allies. On remarks that Congress is weakened in Tamil Nadu, he said, "Only if the Congress were in an alliance will the secular seal be given to that combine. If there was to be an alliance which gave confidence to the minorities, the Congress would have to be part of that." He acknowledged Congress alone may not win but brings value to the alliance.
