The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, February 6, 2026, extended for the fourth time the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. The 30-day extension came after a request from Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa. Mr. Rinwa said that claims and objections can now be filed until March 6. The Commission stated it used its powers under Rule 12 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, to extend the period for filing claims and objections. Notices to electors can be issued until March 27. The final electoral rolls will be published on April 10. Out of the 15.44 crore voters in the previous list, 12.55 crore names were retained in the draft list. About 2.89 crore voters, or roughly 19%, were deleted due to deaths, permanent migration, or multiple registrations. Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh have accused the authorities of wrongly deleting voter names and raised concerns over the list revision.
