Amit Shah Visits J&K Border, Calls for Advanced Tech to Fight UAV Threats
February 7, 2026
On February 6, 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited several border outposts in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the rising use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) along the international border. These UAVs are reportedly being used to drop weapons. Mr. Shah urged the Border Security Force (BSF) to stay alert and adopt advanced technology to meet new challenges. "Emerging challenges driven by advanced technology must be countered with equally advanced technological solutions," he said while addressing BSF personnel in Kathua, Jammu. This year, security forces have recorded over six UAV sightings in the Jammu region. The area also saw five encounters with terrorists, resulting in one soldier and three terrorists killed. Mr. Shah praised the BSF’s actions during last year’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, which destroyed 118 enemy posts and three terror launch pads. He said, "The government and the BSF both share the common objective of keeping the borders secure. Your dedication to remaining constantly vigilant on the frontlines is extremely important." During his visit, Mr. Shah paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the ‘Ajay Prahari’ memorial. He was accompanied by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, and BSF Director General Praveen Kumar. He also inaugurated six welfare schemes for border guards and handed compassionate appointment letters to families of deceased personnel. Mr. Shah chaired a high-level security review, emphasizing the need to strengthen security in J&K to maintain peace both along the borders and within the region. He arrived in Jammu on the night of February 5 and will hold another meeting on February 7, which Chief Minister Omar Abdullah may attend.
