Police are searching two properties connected to Peter Mandelson in a probe over claims he passed market-sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein. The Metropolitan Police said searches are underway in Camden, north London, and Wiltshire. Mandelson has lived in Wiltshire since being removed as UK ambassador to the US due to his links with the late convicted child sex offender Epstein. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Hayley Sewart said, "Officers from the Met’s central specialist crime team are in the process of carrying out search warrants at two addresses, one in the Wiltshire area, and another in the Camden area." She added, "The searches are related to an ongoing investigation into misconduct in public office offences, involving a 72-year-old man. He has not been arrested and enquiries are ongoing." The investigation launched after documents showed Mandelson’s close ties to Epstein. These suggest Mandelson received money from Epstein between 2003 and 2004 and leaked sensitive market information while he was Business Secretary in Gordon Brown’s government in 2009. The police are collecting electronic devices like phones, computers, USB sticks, and documents from the properties. Officers entered the Wiltshire property without force but found Mandelson at the Camden address during the search. The searches were done using warrants granted by a magistrates court. Mandelson was sacked as ambassador in September after fresh details of his friendship with Epstein came to light. The revelations have caused anger among Labour MPs. Keir Starmer admitted in the Commons he approved Mandelson’s ambassador role despite knowing about his Epstein links. Following this, the Prime Minister agreed to release thousands of related documents. Some Labour MPs now want Starmer or his chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, who supported Mandelson’s appointment, to step down.
