£4m Legal Fight Over Picasso Links Farage Backer to Auction Dispute
February 7, 2026
A courtroom battle has erupted over a £4 million Picasso painting, casting a spotlight on Sasan Ghandehari, the businessman who funded Nigel Farage's £50,000 trip to Davos. The dispute centers on allegations against Christie's auction house for misrepresentation when selling the artwork, named Femme dans un rocking-chair, to Brewer Management Corporation, a British Virgin Islands firm represented by Ghandehari. Ghandehari, a British citizen linked to a $10bn family trust, is involved as a guarantor in the deal. Christie’s countersues for £16 million, saying Ghandehari has not paid for the painting and doubts if Brewer Management can cover legal costs. Court filings reveal Ghandehari was hesitant to disclose income details from his HP Trust over privacy concerns. The case raises questions about the transparency of Ghandehari’s trust, which was listed as sponsoring Farage’s Davos pass. Campaigner Tom Brake called for full disclosure of political funding sources, stating, “Politicians must demand total transparency about who is donating to their campaigns and make that information publicly available.” Meanwhile, Ghandehari’s lawyers defended family trust confidentiality as normal practice. The art deal's dispute partly hinges on whether Christie's should have informed Ghandehari that the painting’s seller had a drug trafficking conviction. Christie’s denies this obligation and points to a delayed payment since May 2023. The only asset Brewer Management Corporation declared was another painting by Flora Yukhnovich, valued between £1m and £2.3m, held at a secret UK location. The court found insufficient financial evidence from Ghandehari to prove his ability to pay. Christie’s describes Ghandehari as a seasoned art investor confident they followed all legal rules. The judge declined Christie’s request to demand upfront security from Brewer Management but required Ghandehari’s wife, Yassmin Ghandehari, to provide assurances about the Yukhnovich painting's availability and freedom from claims. This case and Farage’s connection to Ghandehari spotlight complexities in art ownership, offshore funds, and political sponsorship.
