IISc Hikes BSc Research Tuition Fee to ₹80,000 from 2026-27
February 7, 2026
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has announced a major fee hike for undergraduate students. Starting the academic year 2026-27, tuition fees for the Bachelor of Science (Research) programme will increase from ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 per annum. IISc stated that this new fee aligns with other top Indian institutions. "The tuition fee had remained unchanged at ₹10,000 per annum since the inception of the programme in 2011," the institute said. Along with the undergraduate course, PhD and some master’s programme fees will also rise. These changes will start with new admissions for the 2026-27 academic year and will not affect current students. IISc explained, "The change in fee structure has been implemented after careful consideration and review, with the goal of sustaining and improving the institute’s academic programmes, resources, facilities, and other support services, to provide exceptional, well-rounded education for students at all levels." The institute also assured that financial support, including tuition fee waivers or reimbursements, will be provided to all reserved category and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) students. Details about admissions and important timelines will be shared soon on the IISc admissions website.
