Hongkongers Lose HK$350 Million to Online Scams in 2025, Mostly Fake Concert Tickets

Hong Kong consumers lost about HK$350 million (US$44.8 million) in online shopping scams between January and November 2025, police revealed. There were 11,449 reported cases, up 8% from 10,576 in the same period in 2024. Superintendent Cheung Hau-yee of the Cybersecurity and Technology Crime Bureau said the increase is slowing, with 8% growth in cases from 2024 to 2025, compared to 27% the previous year. About 63% of the scams involved fake concert ticket sales, while 9% were linked to counterfeit electronic goods. Losses matched the HK$350 million recorded in the first 11 months of 2024, up sharply from around HK$170 million in 2023.
