German companies are looking to invest more in China as they lose confidence in the United States due to President Donald Trump's policies. However, they still face challenges in China’s market, according to a German Chamber of Commerce executive. The executive said, “Everyone sees the technological advances of China, the great potential, but especially the smaller companies shy away from the complexity of and the tough competition in the Chinese market.” The chamber suggests that German officials, including Merz, should offer a message of cautious optimism while acknowledging frustrations that China has not resolved longstanding issues such as intellectual property rights protection. A recent survey by the German Chamber of Commerce in China showed that 56 percent of participating companies are thinking of increasing cooperation with Chinese partners. Around 630 of the chamber’s 2,000 members across China took part in the survey.
